The short answer

Yes. A regular life policy pays if you die in a car crash, as long as the policy is active and no exclusion applies.

Life insurance pays for accidental deaths. If you have a $500,000 policy and die in a crash, your beneficiary gets the full $500,000.

A claim can be denied if drugs or alcohol played a part in the death. It can also be denied if you died while committing a felony.

In the first two years, the insurer can look into your application before it pays. After two years, it generally cannot deny the claim over mistakes on the application.

An accidental death rider adds money if you die in an accident. It can pay double, triple or more of the death benefit.

AD&D is a separate kind of coverage. It pays for accidental death and for some injuries, like losing a limb or your eyesight. It does not cover illness.
