## Help paying in Maryland

**Burial Assistance Program**

Maryland Department of Human Services. Not published on the page. Limited cash help paid to the funeral director when the person who died was on, or eligible for, a DHS program such as TCA, TDAP, PAA, Medical Assistance or SSI. Call 1-800-332-6347. ## Medicaid and burial money

Up to $1,500 per person set aside for burial is not counted. Life insurance with excluded cash value and irrevocable burial funds lower that $1,500. An irrevocable burial fund of any amount and burial spaces for the family are not counted.

## Prepaid funeral plans

Only a licensed mortician or funeral director can sell a preneed funeral contract. Within 10 days of each payment, the seller must put 100% of the money for services, 80% of the price of a casket or vault, and 100% for other goods into an escrow or trust account. Unless you made the trust irrevocable, you can ask in writing for a refund of all payments and interest.
