## Medicaid and burial money

An irrevocable preneed burial contract or trust is not counted. Up to $1,500 of other money can be set aside for burial for each person.

## Prepaid funeral plans

The NC Board of Funeral Service licenses preneed sellers. Trust money must go into an insured bank account in trust within 5 business days. The seller may keep up to 10% if told to you in writing first. If you cancel a revocable plan, the bank must refund the whole amount it holds within 30 days. Irrevocable plans can be undone only by court order, with a few exceptions.
