Some plans pay a smaller amount in the first years. This is called a graded benefit. A Missouri rule says a graded policy for people 76 and up cannot be issued there unless the first year benefit is at least 50% of the full amount.
Is it too late at 75?
Not always. Final expense and some permanent policies are sold at that age. Term may be harder to find.
