The short answer

VALife is whole life insurance from VA for veterans with a service connected disability rating, even 0%. You can get up to $40,000 with no health questions.

If you are 80 or younger and have any VA service connected rating, you can get VALife. There is no time limit to apply after you get your rating. If you are 81 or older, special rules apply.

You can pick $10,000 to $40,000, in $10,000 steps. VA approves you if you qualify. You do not have to prove you are healthy. You can keep it for life. Cash value starts to build 2 years after approval. VALife does not offer loans.

There is a 2 year wait for full coverage. If you die in the first 2 years, VA pays back what you paid plus interest. VA lists 4.23% for a death in 2026. After 2 years, VA pays the full amount.

Your price is set by your age when you apply. It never goes up while you keep the policy. VALife has no premium waiver. If you have the older S-DVI plan and apply for VALife now, your S-DVI ends the day VALife is approved.
